So apparently Dell is now shipping a 20″ widescreen LCD ala the Apple Cinema dispay. Looks like it’s got pretty sweet specs in addition to being priced several hundred less than Apple’s. Now if only Dell would have some outrageous deal on it.
- 1680×1050 resolution
- 16:10 aspect ratio
- 16ms refresh (12ms gray-to-gray)
- 600:1 contrast ratio
- 300cd/m2 brightness
- analog (VGA) and digital (DVI) inputs, as well as video inputs for S-video and composite connections
- Picture-in-Picture and picture-by-picture support
- four USB2.0 connectors
- rotates into a portrait display position

For kicks I compared the number of pixels on this display with Dell’s old 20″ normal aspect ratio, and there are actually like 10% fewer pixels on this one, even though it’s set to cost $200 more than the old one’s currently selling for. It has slightly better specs otherwise (600:1 vs 400:1 and 300cd/m2 vs 250cd/m2), but still. Too bad they don’t jack this thing up to 1920×1200 or something like that.
